Week 4
Jess MahyCommentMore observational drawing of boats.
Drawing from a documentary about exploring the deep sea. Collecting research for a submarine gate fold page idea.
Week 3
Jess MahyCommentColour workshop using collage. Making thumbnails for sequence thinking about colour and how it can be used in the image to evoke emotion, relationships, atmosphere etc. I kept an illustrative feel to this task but I think it is because I haven’t a strong narrative for my project.
Using purple on the surface of the sea to reflect the sky. I never use purple so wanted to explore colours that work alongside it.
Experimenting with using red to connect the dangers (birds, boat, net) coming for the fish.
Playing with the ratios of sky to water to show the opposites between a submarine and a hover boat. Thinking about if this was a double page spread how do they sit next to each other.
Seeing if the submarine is black does it look more ominous? or does it not stand out enough? Experimenting also with a mini sequence of diving into the deep and what is waiting there for the submarine.
Observational drawing from Naburn Marina
Memory drawing and illogical colour experiment.
Week 2
Jess MahyCommentWorking outs for what the theme of the project could be with a combination of notes and observational drawings.
